Foster Electricity Markets
In working to Foster Electricity Markets, PowerGEM has...
Developed software used by the NYISO market monitoring unit (MMU) to analyze market performance and detect gaming in congested networks.
Developed software to simulate portfolio, day-ahead and real time market performance in transmission constrained markets (PROBE), including high performance security constrained unit commitment.
Developed software to identify limiting flowgates (monitored element/contingency pairs) for all generator dispatch combinations (TARA). This technique is useful for market design and handling of seams issues between market areas.
Developed software to calculate available transmission or flowgate capability (ATC/AFC) in long term (1 year to 1 week) and short term (1 week) for PJM, TVA, and SPP. These calculations are based on daily network model updates (SDX files) and consider contingency constraints over a wide area of the United States Eastern Interconnection.
Led and participated in PJM and NYISO committees that established generator interconnection procedures, connection cost allocation procedures and capacity deliverability tests.
Provided technical support of must-run generation requirements and mitigation negotiations.
Performed economic analysis of transmission expansion options in PJM and New York.
